The first 60 days since my move from a ‘big’ to a ‘small’ agency flew by. It’s a decision that allowed me to question established structures, ingrained processes, and in-house expertise—elements typically needed to keep the big machine running. Here are my initial insights:
Attitude Over Skills
How do you place the right talent when you only have a handful of colleagues to choose from? In a small agency, everyone wears many hats. Variety becomes a vitamin boost, and routine is out of the question. You’re constantly pushed to explore, learn, and adapt quickly, without ever getting too comfortable. This naturally fosters a strong company culture and tightens team bonds.
Not Full-Service, But Full-Surrounded
With a compact team, you need to invest in a solid network of experts. In today’s economic climate, this is a bonus—you bring in specialists when needed, not just because they’re on the payroll. This gives us the freedom to tap into a broader pool of talent, ensuring we deliver the right added value.
Challenger as a Comfort Zone
We’re a challenger, and we get challenged. Whether it’s pushing to find the sharpest solutions, making a difference, or taking calculated risks. Without the burden of protecting ingrained processes or navigating complex decision-making structures, we can act fast and enjoy the freedom of a more agile, open playing field.
